Nauticam Komodo-X Underwater Housing
For the RED® KOMODO-X™
The Nauticam Komodo-X housing puts RED's compact 6K Super 35 cinema camera into one of the most travel-friendly underwater cinema systems available. It shares the proven N120 cinema port system used across Nauticam's DSLR and cinema range, so it slots straight into an existing N120 kit and opens the door to Nauticam's premium water-contact optics. Tool-less setup, in-housing battery swaps and Nauticam's standard vacuum check and leak detection make it as practical on the boat as it is capable in the water.
Consider the Komodo-X if you:
- Want professional 6K RAW cinema in the smallest practical underwater package
- Already shoot an N120 system and want to share ports and optics
- Need quick, tool-less lens and battery changes in the field
- Plan to run an external monitor or surface control over SDI or Ethernet

The Camera: RED® KOMODO-X™
New to the Komodo-X? Here's the context. Already know it well — skip to the housing below.
The RED® KOMODO-X™ features a 6K Super 35 sensor with up to 16 stops of dynamic range, recording R3D (REDCODE RAW) directly to CFast 2.0 cards and avoiding expensive proprietary media. It uses Canon's RF mount with full support for the Canon EF to EOS R adaptor, giving access to a wide range of focal lengths. Second in size only to the original KOMODO, it has one of the smallest form factors in the RED line-up — a feature set squarely aimed at filmmakers needing professional specs in a travel-friendly body.

The Housing
Lens compatibility and the N120 port system
The Komodo-X housing uses the N120 cinema port system shared with Nauticam's other N120 platforms, so moving across from another N120 Nauticam system is straightforward and gives access to premium optics such as the WACP and SMC ranges. Large cinema-style focus and zoom wheels sit within easy reach of the handles for precise manual control with the matching lens gear sets. Changing lenses is quick and tool-less.
Worth noting: the housing supports both RF and EF lenses, but switching between RF and EF requires removing the camera from the housing to fit or remove the RF-to-EF adaptor. With the 16410 N120 to N200 Port Adaptor, the system also supports larger cinema lenses on the N200 port system.
Mission Control: every control within reach
Adjustable handles place the cinema-style zoom and focus knobs at your fingertips, and a 1/4"-20 cheese plate on top of the housing provides multiple accessory mounting points. Batteries can be swapped without removing the camera from the housing.
External monitoring — SDI
An SDI bulkhead system lets you drive an external monitor housing (SmallHD Ultra 5 or Atomos Ninja V) for confident framing and focus.
Required for the SDI cable system
Recommended monitor housings
- 17926 NA-Ultra5 Housing for SmallHD Ultra 5 monitor
- 17926S SDI Cable Set for NA-Ultra5
- 17922S Ninja V-S Housing for Atomos Ninja V with AtomX SDI module
- 25061 SDI Cable, 0.75 m (between SDI bulkheads)
Camera control over the Ultra 5 monitor
- 16265R UW Camera Control Cable Bundle for NA-Ultra5
Surface control — Ethernet
The housing supports a surface Ethernet feed in 5 m (pole cam) and 45 m (studio) lengths, with room inside for a small Ethernet router for full surface control of the camera via the RED Control app.
- 16261 Ethernet Surface Cable Set, 45 m (incl. housing Lemo bulkhead and cables)
- 16262 Replacement housing Lemo bulkhead with integrated Ethernet cable
- 16263 Ethernet Surface Cable Set, 5 m
A USB-C to Ethernet adaptor is required for use with 16261/16263.
Vacuum check and leak detection — standard
The Komodo-X housing includes Nauticam's field-tested Vacuum Check and Leak Detection System. Drawing a slight vacuum with the compact hand pump confirms the housing is sealed before entering the water and throughout the dive, with a colour-coded LED at the rear showing vacuum status. Leak detection shares the same circuit, triggering an audible and visual alarm on any water intrusion. The system is temperature-compensated to eliminate false alarms.
