Nauticam NA-Z50II Underwater Housing

For the Nikon Z50 II (with Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm lens)

The NA-Z50II takes Nikon's compact DX mirrorless underwater in an ultra-portable, fixed-port system — a drop-in clamshell built exclusively around the Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm lens, with a bayonet mount for switching between wide-angle and macro wet optics on the same dive. It ships with vacuum and leak monitoring as standard.

Consider the NA-Z50II if you:

  • Want an ultra-compact, travel-friendly APS-C rig — drop-in clamshell design, no tray needed
  • Shoot the Z DX 16-50mm with switchable WWL-C wide-angle and CMC-1 macro wet optics on one dive
  • Want simple, accurate TTL flash via the camera's pop-up flash
  • Need reliable safety monitoring for demanding dives

The Camera: Nikon Z50 II

New to the Z50 II? Here's the context. Already know it well — skip to the housing below.

The Z50 II is Nikon's follow-up to its original DX (APS-C) mirrorless body, sharing the Z mount with Nikon's full-frame cameras. It keeps the 20.9MP DX CMOS sensor of the Z50 but pairs it with the newer EXPEED 7 processor, bringing notable gains in video and autofocus. It captures UHD 4K up to 30p using the full sensor width — no loss of field of view, which matters underwater — plus 4K 60p from a 1.44× crop and HD up to 120fps. A rear switch toggles between stills and video with discrete exposure settings for each, and the EVF gets a brightness boost to 1,000 nits.

  • Twin control dials
  • 2.36M-dot 1000-nit OLED viewfinder
  • 11fps continuous shooting
  • Pop-up flash

The Housing

Optical design: fixed port with wet-optic bayonet

The NA-Z50II is built exclusively around the Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR lens, with a fixed flat port and a pre-installed bayonet mount. Using Nauticam's WWL-C wide-angle optic, it achieves outstanding sharpness, an impressive 130° field of view and full zoom-through; the wet-mate design lets you remove it underwater and switch to the powerful CMC-1 macro lens, making this a true do-anything system. The integrated bayonet makes the swap quick and easy.

Maximum efficiency

The compact nature of the Z50 II carries straight into the housing. Compared with the NA-Z50 for the original Z50, the NA-Z50II uses a clamshell closure that allows drop-in installation of the camera with no tray necessary.

Mission Control: every control within reach

The NA-Z50II places critical controls within easy reach of its integrated, stabilised ergonomic handles. Textured knobs for the main and sub command dials sit by the right handle, alongside dedicated video Record and AF-On buttons. The camera's still/video switch — which maintains separate exposure settings for each mode — is easily accessed on top of the housing, making the NA-Z50II an ideal platform for UHD 4K 60p/30p or HD 120p capture.

Flash triggering

The Z50 II's pop-up flash provides accurate TTL triggering through the integrated fiber-optic bulkheads. A switch on the housing raises or lowers the flash, for quick switching between ambient and artificial light.

Vacuum check and leak detection — standard

Nauticam's vacuum check and leak detection electronics ship with the NA-Z50II as standard. Combined with the optional 25625 M16 Vacuum Valve II, the system continuously reports the housing's watertight, safe-to-dive status through a color-coded LED: solid vacuum, or vacuum loss. Leak detection runs on the same circuit, so any water intrusion triggers an audible and visual alarm.

The system is temperature-compensated, so it won't throw false alarms from a change in water temperature or from the camera heating up on an action-packed dive.
