Nauticam NA-FX3 Underwater Housing

For the Sony FX3 / FX30

The NA-FX3 takes Sony's compact Cinema Line body underwater — the video power of the A7S III with cinema-centric controls, 4K 120p capture and exceptional low-light sensitivity, in a nimble, travel-friendly housing. Built on Nauticam's N100 port system shared across the Sony full-frame line, it puts the cine controls under your fingers and ships with vacuum and leak monitoring as standard.

Consider the NA-FX3 if you:

  • Want a compact full-frame cinema camera underwater — A7S III video power with cine controls
  • Shoot 4K 120p 10-bit with 15+ stops of dynamic range and unlimited 4K 60p (internal cooling fan)
  • Need exceptional low-light sensitivity (ISO up to 409,600) for available-light filming
  • Want a nimble, travel-friendly rig with reliable safety monitoring

The Camera: Sony FX3

New to the FX3? Here's the context. Already know it well — skip to the housing below.

The Sony FX3 brings the A7S III's video capabilities into a compact Cinema Line form factor. Built around the same sensor, it captures up to 4K 120p 10-bit 4:2:2 with full-pixel readout and 15+ stops of dynamic range, outputs 16-bit RAW 4K 60p over HDMI, and adds a cooling fan that removes the 4K 60p recording-time limit. Controls are cinema-centric — direct iris, shutter angle, ISO and white balance, plus a zoom lever and tally light — and the camera's exceptional sensitivity (ISO up to 409,600) makes it ideal for challenging underwater light.

Key camera specifications

  • Same full-frame sensor as the A7S III; no EVF
  • 4K 120p 10-bit 4:2:2 with full-pixel readout; 15+ stops of dynamic range
  • 16-bit RAW 4K 60p output over HDMI
  • Internal cooling fan — no 4K 60p recording-time limit
  • 627-point phase-detection AF with customisable AF transition speed and tracking
  • 5-axis in-body stabilization; reduced rolling shutter
  • ISO up to 409,600
  • Dual CFexpress Type A / SDXC card slots

The Housing

Lens compatibility and the N100 port system

The NA-FX3 is built around the N100 port system shared by all Nauticam full-frame Sony mirrorless housings, making for a seamless crossover for existing Sony shooters. Alongside optical-glass and flat-port solutions for a wide range of lenses, the real power comes from Nauticam's Water Contact Optics: the WACP-1 and WACP-2 achieve ultra-wide 130° fields of view with reduced distortion, ~0" minimum focus distances, zoom-through and excellent corner sharpness even at wide apertures.

Mission Control: every control within reach

The NA-FX3 follows Nauticam's Mission Control philosophy, placing controls where they're reached with minimal movement. Within easy reach of the right handle are control dials for Iris, ISO and Shutter Speed, plus a dedicated Record button and a Focus Mag lever. Stainless-steel stabilising brackets keep the handles steady even when running large video lights or other accessories.

Connectivity

An M24 bulkhead supports the Nauticam HDMI 2.0 / 1.4 cable system for external monitors and recorders. A dedicated M16 bulkhead provides remote-control capability using the Sony RM-VPR1 controller (a proprietary waterproof cable is required), and a rear M14 bulkhead takes the optional vacuum valve.

Vacuum check and leak detection — standard

The NA-FX3 ships with Nauticam's vacuum check and leak detection system, using the rear M14 bulkhead for the optional 25624 M14 Vacuum Valve II. The system continuously reports the housing's watertight, safe-to-dive status through a color-coded LED: solid vacuum, or vacuum loss. Leak detection runs on the same circuit, so any water intrusion triggers an audible and visual alarm.

The system is temperature-compensated, so it won't throw false alarms from a change in water temperature or from the camera heating up on an action-packed dive.
